Petition calls for much less single-use plastic in SQDC cannabis packaging

Extra than 15,000 men and women have signed a petition to reduce down on the plastic applied to package cannabis items in Quebec.

“There’s also a great deal packaging for no cause,” mentioned Ruba Ghazal, the Quebec Solidaire MNA for the Mercier riding and the party’s atmosphere critic.

She sponsored the petition which is on the national assembly’s web site. It calls on the Société québécoise du cannabis (SQDC) to ban all single-use plastic.

SQDC packaging normally contains thick, kid-resistant, temper-evident plastic containers that are then boxed in cardboard.

The petition says numerous of the containers of the SQDC are not recyclable or are developed for single-use and that the SQDC does not supply any sort of package-recovery or consignment selections to its customers.

“Also the other request is to have a lot more ecological packing, biodegradable plastic,” Ghazal mentioned.

The SQDC says there is a cause for all that packaging.

“Producers and suppliers have to adhere strictly to government labelling and packaging specifications imposed by the Cannabis Act and by Overall health Canada,” the SQDC says in a statement.

Canada’s cannabis legislation calls for that the packaging be kid resistant and not be appealing to young men and women.

This is the second petition to contact for much less plastic packaging. A single final year began by a Montreal resident collected a lot more than 1,000 signatures.
