CBD oil seized at Bush, Hobby airports – Story

– Federal agents have a warning for persons who use CBD oil. The well known hemp extract could land you in a lot of difficulty if you attempt to take it with you to the airport.

At least 41 travelers at Bush and Hobby airports had their CBD oil seized by federal agents in fiscal year 2018, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents.

On international flights, airport safety is in the lookout for your bottle of CBD oil.

“The passenger should really know that if they are carrying CBD oil, they could face a delay,” said Alicia Tellez, a watch commander for U.S. Customs and Border Patrol At Bush Airport. “Travelers crossing by means of our ports of entry could have their luggage searched, their carry-ons searched.”

On domestic flights, TSA officials say illegal drugs are not the concentrate of their search, but if they take place to see anything suspicious, they do get in touch with police.

The cannabis item is increasing in popularity—touted as a all-natural remedy for discomfort and anxiety—but several CBD oils include trace amounts of THC, the illegal substance that provides marijuana customers a higher.

Airport Customs and Border Protection agents are armed with kits and prepared to test the purity of a bottle of CBD oil on the spot.

“If a passenger is suspected of carrying a controlled substance, we will test that substance,” stated Tellez. “It only requires a couple of seconds to get a constructive or a adverse response.”

If THC is detected, Houston Police narcotics officers are referred to as to the scene. Arrests are doable.

“We will seek prosecution,” stated Tellez.

At a federal level, trace amounts of THC in CBD oil are now legal at .three % or much less, but Texas law does not let for any presence of THC in your cannabis oil.

Customs and Border Protection agents did not clarify what percentage of THC they test for but stated you could threat finding pulled aside for testing if you are found to be carrying CBD oil.

“We strongly recommend that the passengers inform themselves ahead of they travel,” stated Tellez.

Fox 26 asked Houston Police about arrests and seizures connected to CBD oil at Bush and Hobby airports. They did not readily have that data readily available, but stated they have been functioning on finding it.
